• Junior Designer - Based in London, UK

    Junior magazine designer for top French brand.

    John Brown is looking for a talented & enthusiastic French speaking designer to work across its portfolio of titles for a top French brand in print & digital.

    The role will involve all aspects of design work, from conception to completion, providing the best quality work to meet our client’s brief and ensuring we always deliver to the highest standards. Experience of working with big brands would be a plus, as would proficiency in Spanish or German. Excellent command of French is essential.

    You will work collaboratively with the editorial team in London, and will occasionally travel to Paris.

    You may also be asked to work on various magazines and provide design support across the company as needed, reporting to the Deputy Creative Director.

    The role is initially a six-month contract starting in May 2017.

    Main Duties 

    • Design a broad range of creative for one of our biggest clients – brand development, print communication and digital. 
    • Create digital design and assets for websites, APP's and social media platforms. 
    • Collaboration with our picture department and creative team to source library images, and to help commission original photographic and illustrated material when needed.
    • Maintain the high visual standard John Brown sets and assist others in maintaining this standard. 
    • Creation of presentation and mock-ups to present ideas/executions for approval. 
    • Bring fresh ideas and approaches by combining cultural awareness with an enquiring mind. A great eye and in-depth understanding for UI and UX. 
    • Any other duties as reasonably requested, on this and other accounts. 

    Key Skills 

    Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) essential. 

    Traditional layout, typography and print knowledge a must. 

    Additional digital skills would be advantageous. 

    Knowledge of HTML5 & CSS3 also an asset but not essential. 

    Excellent communication skills, initiative & ability to thrive under pressure.

    The Person

  • Editor - Based in London, UK

    French speaking Editor for top French brand.

    John Brown is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and organised editor to work across its portfolio of titles for a top French brand. Its an exciting time for the account with lots of new creative projects expanding a well-established business, so its a great time to get involved.

    The role will involve all aspects of print and digital editorial work, from initial concepts, copy writing and subbing, right through to the final delivery of the product on the page. Experience of working with big brands is a pre-requisite.

    Great team-management and schedule-hitting skills will be second nature to you, and your client liaison skills will be particularly strong. Experience of technology/telecoms titles would be beneficial but is not essential.

    Fluency in French and English is a pre-requisite, as is strong cross-cultural awareness. Good command of Spanish or German is a plus.

    Applicants must have relevant experience in a similar role, excellent editorial skills, proficiency in InDesign, and creativity right down to their fingertips.

    The role is based in London and will require frequent travel to Paris. The role is initially a six-month contract starting in May 2017.

    The job description

    • Creating a multiple channel editorial offering that is attractive to readers. This requires strong editorial/journalistic skills, brand awareness and experience in storytelling.
    • Effectively managing time and resources to ensure that deadlines are always met. This involves prioritising and delegating a wide range of different tasks with different time scales.

    • Understand the client proposition. This involves building a great working relationship through regular contact with the industry to gain strategic and editorial insight.

    Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • Significant experience as an editor/journalist, including experience of writing for brands in French.
    • Omnichannel content experience, including a specific track record creating digital narratives and social media content for media brands
    • Detailed knowledge of the market, with the ability to rapidly learn about new areas of technology and industry.
    • Ability to work as part of a team, ensuring that other members are productive, motivated, flexible and capable of rising to new challenges.
    • Ability to deal with a wide range of people including colleagues, contributors and senior managers in industry.
