• Senior Account Manager: John Lewis HOME Maternity cover - UK

    John Brown has a maternity cover vacancy for a senior account manager to work across the John Lewis Partnership HOME content programme.

    John Lewis is Britain’s favourite retailer; this is therefore an incredibly exciting opportunity for an ambitious account manager. The position will involve the overseeing of the HOME omnichannel content programme.

    We currently produce a series of interiors publications and online content to support the John Lewis Home department. You will oversee complex production schedules with multiple creative teams who will be shooting and delivering content simultaneously. You will ensure that all content is delivered efficiently and consistently fulfils the client’s brief. You will have responsibility for leading a talented team, so must be able to manage staff effectively.

    You will operate as the key interface between the client and John Brown to ensure that new opportunities are explored, accounts are financially viable and client requirements are met. You will be intuitive and solution-orientated, with a strong strategic background. You will be process driven and experienced in managing complex content programmes across various channels, with several years’ experience in client servicing. You must be experienced in managing budgets and putting together quotes for high-value projects.

    You will have the ability and initiative to develop knowledge of the client’s marketplace and ambitions, and an understanding of the client’s marketing needs to proactively identify opportunities and develop a marketing plan and strategy. An interest in interiors would be an advantage.

    Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, a talent for clear communication, the proactivity to develop and grow the account, and a high degree of numeracy are essential.

  • Assistant Managing Editor - USA

    The assistant managing editor works closely with the managing editor to oversee the copy editing and fact checking processes of a monthly food and cooking magazine, ensure the smooth running of the magazine production process, and maintain editorial standards. The assistant managing editor is responsible for liaising efficiently and diplomatically with clients and internal team to ensure that each issue is out on time and maintains publication tone and style.

    Responsibilities:

    • Partner with the managing editor to oversee the production schedule of a monthly magazine
    • Manage the editorial calendar and deadline schedule for print and digital
    • Copy-edit stories and recipes, writing snappy headlines and decks, fact checking, and proofreading pages
    • Contribute editorial ideas and suggestions, and writing original copy, as needed
    • Track and manage invoices and contracts
    • Liaise with translation services as needed

    Qualifications:

    • At least two years copy-editing experience
    • At least two years magazine production experience
    • Experience working with recipes a plus
    • Familiarity with the Adobe Suite (particularly InDesign)
    • Fluency with both digital and print, and with social media channels
    • Fluency in Latin American Spanish a plus

    John Brown is looking for a proactive and creative salesperson with a strong sales background and existing agency relationships to generate revenue from key agencies and clients for the UK’s leading food magazine, Waitrose Food.

    The role will include:

    • Providing weekly status reports to the account director
    • Keeping a monitoring system for competitive titles
    • Forecasting and producing quarterly activity plans
    • Regular reporting to both ad director and account director
    • Producing coherent sales strategies and business plans
    • Writing and presenting sales presentations
    • Utilising existing contacts to gain meetings
    • Attending regular monthly meetings
    • Developing the travel/motor advertising within Waitrose Food, through display advertising and creative solutions


    The ideal person will have a good working knowledge of both print and digital advertising sales, preferably within consumer magazines. Proven negotiation and sales skills are essential, and you will possess agency and client contacts. Good knowledge of the FMCG or travel sector is a major plus.

    You will be highly motivated, ready to take the initiative and able to work well in a team environment. Your excellent market awareness will be matched by an enthusiasm to drive the product forward, and you will have good interpersonal and numeracy skills. An understanding of NRS and TGI is also required.
